Healthy Habits to Make While Working Remotely

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many companies were forced to allow their employees to work from home. Some companies have even decided to make working from home a permanent change. Our health clinics at the Lake of the Ozarks want you to be healthy no matter what your work situation is. Keep reading this week's blog for a few healthy habits to make while working remotely. One healthy habit you can start right now if you haven't already is to make a yearly appointment with your Primary Healthcare Provider at the Lake of the Ozarks for a general check-up. If you don't have a Primary Healthcare Provider, we strongly urge you to choose one. For a complete list of the Primary Care Providers at Central Ozarks Medical Center, visit HERE.

Healthy Habits to Make While Working Remotely

Try to get some Vitamin-D at least once a workday.
Vitamin D is good for you for a NUMBER of reasons. Some of those reasons can include but are not limited to:

  • Weight Loss
  • Decreasing depression
  • Reduces your chances of getting the Flu
  • Reduces your risk for heart disease

One of the best ways you can get some Vitamin D while working from home is just to grab your laptop (if you have one) and go sit out on your porch or patio. You know you have a bunch of e-mails to check anyway, so why not go do that in the sunshine for awhile?

Take walks on your breaks.
Yes, it can be very easy to get caught up in your work and forget to give yourself breaks, but don't. Your body can start to ache if you sit too long without giving your muscles the chance to stretch out. Take a walk around the block, down your road, around the house, wherever is most convenient for you. Not only can walking be good for your physically, but mentally as well. Give yourself the chance to clear your mind throughout the day. You may be surprised at how many GREAT work-related ideas may come to you during a transitional period such as this.

Refrain from stress eating the WRONG foods.
One of the worst habits you can get into is stress eating. Let's be honest, work can cause stress, typically can't control that. However, you can control how you react to it. Stress eating doesn't solve your problem, it will likely just lead to weight gain and possibly even a lack of confidence. To help yourself refrain from stress-eating, try meal planning. If you know you've already went through the effort of preparing your healthy meals, you may be less inclined to go eat something unhealthy.

Have You Established Your Primary Healthcare Provider Yet?

Healthy Habits To Get Your Kids Into This Summer

BRING ON THE VEGGIES!
Start a garden this year with your kids. This activity can give your children the perfect combination of physical activity and healthy eating. While it takes some hard work to keep a garden going, it can all be worth it, in the end, to ensure your children are staying physical and getting to eat some healthy options once your garden starts producing some delicious vegetables.

FIND A SPORT YOUR KIDS LIKE AND MAKE IT A REGULAR PART OF THEIR ROUTINE THIS SUMMER.
Sports can be a great physical activity for your kids to enjoy. There are so many to choose from and you can even participate with your kids in the backyard when it comes to some sports. Here are a few examples of great summer sports you can get your kids involved in:
  • Baseball
  • Football
  • Basketball
  • Soccer
  • Gymnastics
  • Swimming
  • Running
These are just a few examples, but the sky can be the limit here. Not only are these physical activities that can give your kids a healthy amount of exercise but it can give them the chance to spend some valuable time with others, such as siblings, friends, or you, their parents while having fun participating in a sport.

STAY HYDRATED AND LEARN TO LOVE SUNSCREEN.
Clearly, the sun can be really strong in this area during the summertime. Your kids should be drinking plenty of water each day. Sunscreen should be applied if they plan to stay outside for very long. If your kids aren't very fond of either of these options, you can make it a fun activity. Reward them for drinking water and applying sunscreen. For example, give them a fun sticker for doing these types of tasks.

All of us here at Central Ozarks Medical Center hope that you all enjoy your summer this year! Remember, if you need to make an appointment with one of our providers, all phone numbers and locations can be found on our website at www.CentralOzarks.org.
