Healthy Skin Care Tips for Boating Season 2019

Use ATLEAST SPF 15 Sunscreen.
It is SO important that you apply sunscreen to your skin multiples times throughout the day as most sunscreens don't last the whole day. This nice weather doesn't last the whole year here at the Lake of the Ozarks and it is very tempting to be out on the water the WHOLE day, which is fine, just make sure your skin is protected.

Limit your time in the sun.
As we said earlier, it can be tempting to be out on the water, the entire day, during boating season. However, that doesn't mean you have to be directly in the sun the whole day. You can put your shade up on your boat, if applicable, or you can cove out in a shady cove, or you can just take breaks and dock your boat and go inside for snacks, etc. and get out of the sun for a while.

Protect your skin with proper clothing.
You don't have to be exposed in a swimsuit only, the entire day. There are several longsleeved shirts to choose from, some of which are even meant for swimming. You can also wear sun hats. sunglasses, long swimsuit cover-ups, etc. The point here is to make sure your skin isn't exposed to the sun the whole day.

How to Get Into Shape for Summer at the Lake of the Ozarks

Summer officially starts Friday, June 21 and our health clinics at the Lake of the Ozarks cannot wait! The Lake area can be so pretty any time of year but especially in the summer. Boating is one of the many popular activities around here during the summer and our Lake of the Ozarks health clinics are here to give you a few tips for getting into shape for boating season. Feel comfortable and be in shape when you get into your swimsuit this year! Part of being in shape is being healthy. Part of being healthy is making sure you are scheduling your annual health check-ups each year. To schedule yours with an affordable health clinic at the Lake of the Ozarks, call Central Ozarks Medical Center today. All of our health clinic locations and phone numbers can be found on our website at www.CentralOzarks.org.

Go check out the local State Park.
The Lake Area is home to both Ha Ha Tonka State Park and Lake of the Ozarks State Park. Both of these parks offer multiple beautiful trails of varying degrees of difficulty. Hiking is a great way to get outside and breathe the fresh air while staying active.

Get your cardio exercise in.
If you're only traveling a short distance, why not take the opportunity to walk or ride a bike to your destination instead of driving your car? Walking and biking are excellent forms of cardio exercise. You can also park farther back in parking lots to give yourself an excuse to walk a greater distance. As an added bonus, you'll save money on gas!

Drink water before eating.
In our country, we commonly mistake the feeling of thirst for the feeling of hunger. As a result, it is not unusual for us to eat more food than we really need. Before reaching for snacks this summer, drink a glass of water to hydrate yourself. After that, you can evaluate whether or not you are actually hungry.

Eat fresh from the local farmer's markets.
Not only is visiting your local farmer's market a great summertime pastime - it offers numerous advantages as well. One, it allows you to get a little bit of mild exercise as you stroll past the various vendors. Two, it gives you access to fresh, healthy produce you can use to prepare your meals. Three, the produce available at farmer's markets is often priced much lower than comparable produce would be at the local grocery store.

  • A small percentage of children who are born prematurely or with low birth weight are at greater risk for having ASD
  • Parents who have a child with ASD have a 2%–18% chance of having a second child who is also affected.
  • Studies have shown that among identical twins, if one child has ASD, then the other will be affected by about 36-95% of the time. In non-identical twins, if one child has ASD, then the other is affected by about 0-31% of the time.
  • ASD tends to occur more often in people who have certain genetic or chromosomal conditions. About 10% of children with autism are also identified as having Down syndrome, fragile X syndrome, tuberous sclerosisExternal, or other genetic and chromosomal disorders
