New Year's Resolutions For Your Health

BE LESS STRESSED.
Instead of overeating when you are stressed, take a walk or drink some Stress-Free tea.

EXERCISE WEEKLY.
People struggle with this but there are a few things you can do to really stick to it. For example, schedule your workouts the same way you would schedule a work meeting or dinner outing. Actually place it into your schedule on your phone or write it in your planner as it is a normal part of your week. You can also do more things at work to stay more active. For example, instead of sending a coworker an e-mail, walk over to them to say what you were going to say. Take breaks to walk outside around the building. If your office allows, bring an exercise ball in and do a few crunches while sitting at your desk.

BE MORE THANKFUL FOR YOU HAVE.
Improve your inner happiness and be more positive this year by writing everything you are thankful for each week.

SLEEP MORE.
This is one of the most important healthy New Year's resolutions you can make. Lack of sleep can lead to weight gain and stress. Put down your electronics earlier this year and do what you need to do to get at least 7 hours of sleep every night. If you are having trouble falling asleep, drink some warm Sleepytime tea or a warm glass or milk.

All of us here at Central Ozarks Medical Center hope these resolution examples help inspire you to make healthy choices in the New Year! We know it's not always easy but we believe in you! Tips For Keeping Your Children Healthy This Winter

Winter is in full session right now. It's colder outside and our health clinics at the Lake of the Ozarks are here to give you a few tips for keeping your children healthy during the winter. Tips For Keeping Your Children Healthy This Winter

Your children should be taking breaks from the cold.
Kids can get so excited that they forget to come inside and warm up, so remind them. You don't want them to catch a cold.

Your children should be watched by you or another adult while playing int the snow.
Prevent your kids from wandering out on to the road or from "roughhousing" by keeping a close eye on them while playing in the snow. Suggest a fun activity for you all to do together, such as making a snowman or snow angels.

Your children should be dressed in warm layers.
Dress your children in warm layers to where they won't get cold right away when walking outside. They say to dress your children in 1 more layer then you would yourself, as an adult. Keep an eye on the wind chill too. Keep as much skin as possible covered to help prevent frostbite. This can include dressing your kids in:

  • coats
  • sweaters
  • ski masks
  • coveralls
  • mittens
  • waterproof boots
  • earmuffs

Your children should be wearing all proper protective gear while ice skating.
Ice skating can be a very popular activity do participate in during the winter, so don't be afraid to let your kids join in. Here are some things you can do to help make for a safer ice skating experience for your children:

  • Make sure they understand all of the rules of the ice skating rink
  • Supervise your children while ice skating
  • Be sure their ice skates are tight enough to where they won't rub on their ankles
  • Consider having them wear a helmet

All of us here at Central Ozarks Medical Center hope you found these tips for keeping your children healthy this winter helpful. We appreciate every patient choosing us for their healthcare. Ditch These Unhealthy Habits in the New Year!

Not getting enough physical exercise.
While everyone deserves a little relaxation time, you don’t want to get in the habit of being so inactive you never work out anymore. Try to make it a goal to work out at least 2 to 3 times per week. Sitting around snacking too much can lead to weight gain and increased stress levels you don’t want.

Neglecting your need for an adequate amount of sleep each night.
You should try to get 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night. Not sleeping enough can lead to weight gain and unwanted stress.

Counting your daily calories WAY too much.
Yes, calorie counting can be a great tool, but it doesn’t cover everything. You could eat 500 calories of bacon and 500 calories vegetables and get 2 completely different results. Your body needs specific nutrients and it is possible to calorie count too much.
