It's National Children's Dental Health Month!

In honor of February being National Children's Dental Health Month, our dental clinic in Richland would like to give you a few tips for making taking care of your teeth fun for your children. Central Ozarks Medical Center understands that brushing your teeth may not sound like the most fun thing to for your little ones, but there are things you can do that can make your kids more excited about taking care of their teeth. If you are looking for a new dentist for your kids because you are unsatisfied with your current dentist, consider the COMC Richland Dental Center. Just call 573.765.2510 to make your first appointment for your kids.

Reward your children for brushing their teeth.
Motivate your kids to want to brush their teeth by rewarding them each time. It can be something as simple as a sticker of their favorite cartoon or a quarter added to their piggy bank. As long as your child feels like they are getting something fun for brushing their teeth, odds are they will be more excited about it than just being told to go brush their teeth or else.

Sing a song while they brush their teeth.
You can make this a fun, creative song you come up with that your kid can look forward to each time they brush their teeth. It can be your own special teeth brushing song for your kiddos. It doesn't have to be anything too wordy or extravagant, just something simple that gets your kids excited about taking care of their teeth.

Tell your child they can brush your teeth if they brush their own first.
How funny do you think your little one would find it if they got to brush their mom or dads teeth for them - HILARIOUS. This sounds like a pretty fair trade-off for getting your little one to take care of their chompers.

Let your child buy a NEW toothbrush.
Take your kid to the store with you and let them pick out their very own toothbrush. They make all kinds of fun and colorful toothbrushes for kids these days. Perhaps choosing a new and colorful toothbrush will get your kid more excited about taking care of their teeth because they get to use a toothbrush they got to pick out themselves.

The Richland Dental Center is Here for Your Kiddos!

We know how tough getting your kid to the dentist can be. Many children fear the dentist, but Central Ozarks Medical Center brings the FUN and kindness your kids have been hoping to see. Things to Look for When Choosing a Pediatrician

Our little ones mean the world to us and you want to give them the best of everything, including healthcare. As a parent, you don't want to see your child in pain and it can be the hardest thing in the world to see your child not feeling well and feeling like you can't do anything about it. It is extremely important that when you are choosing a Pediatrician at the Lake of the Ozarks for your child that you feel like you can trust them and that your child feels comfortable around them. Our health clinics at the Lake of the Ozarks are here to give you a few things to look for when choosing a Pediatrician. If you are searching for a new Pediatrician for your little one, consider Central Ozarks Medical Center.

Things to Look for When Choosing a Pediatrician

Good Reviews from Friends and Family
When you are looking for a Pediatrician for your little one, ask around. Check with family and friends and get their opinions on the Pediatricians you are considering. You can also check the Pediatrician's online reviews, Facebook, Google, etc. You may find a great deal of insight that way as well.

Experience in Pediatrics
Check the Pediatricians credentials. See how long they have been in this field. You may feel less comfortable with a Pediatrician that just started versus someone who has many years of experience.

A Caring and Gentle Demeanor
This is your child, you want to be sure whoever is caring for them has a kind demeanor and treats your little one with the care they deserve. You can call and make an appointment and just see how the Pediatrician you are considering acts around your child. Think of it sort of a like a job interview, only you are the hiring manager and the Pediatrician is the job candidate.

You and Your Little One Get Along Well with This Pediatrician
Above all else, you want to make sure you and your child like this person. Are they kind? Do they ask you how your week has been? Do they show a genuine interest in their patients? All of this matters. You should strive to find a Pediatrician that is truly passionate about what they do.

Keep Your Kids Safe This Winter with COMC

We are in winter 2019 and it is a cold one! While snow can make for a hard drive into work, its also can make for a fun play day for your kids. Our health clinics at the Lake of the Ozarks hope that you and your kids both have some time this season to enjoy the snow together. That being said, Central Ozarks Medical Center wants you to have fun, but be safe out in the snow, so it's important to bundle up. Here are a few safety tips for you and your kids for this winter 2019. If the cold has gotten to you and you are in need of a doctor at the Lake of the Ozarks, call Central Ozarks Medical Center today.

Keep Your Kids Safe This Winter with COMC

MAKE YOUR KIDS TAKE BREAKS TO WARM UP.
Kids can get so excited that they forget to come inside and warm up, so remind them. You don't want them to catch a cold.

WATCH YOUR KIDS WHEN THEY PLAY IN THE SNOW.
Prevent your kids from wandering out on to the road or from "rough housing" by keeping a close eye on them while playing in the snow. Suggest a fun activity for you all to do together, such as making a snowman or  snow angels.

MAKE SURE YOUR KIDS ARE SAFE WHILE ICE SKATING.
Ice skating can be a very popular activity do participate in during the winter, so don't be afraid to let your kids join in. Here are some things you can do to help make for a safer ice skating experience for your children:

Make sure they understand all of the rules of the ice skating rink
Supervise your children while ice skating
Be sure their ice skates are tight enough to where they won't rub on their ankles
Consider having them wear a helmet

LAYER YOUR KIDS UP!
Dress your children in warm layers to where they won't get cold right away when walking outside. They say to dress your children in 1 more layer then you would yourself, as an adult. Keep an eye on the wind chill too. Keep as much skin as possible covered to help prevent frostbite. This can include dressing your kids in Mittens, Waterproof boots, Ear muffs, Coats, Sweaters, Ski masks, Coveralls and more.

Healthy New Year's Resolutions You Can REALLY Stick To

We hope everyone got off to a great start this year! How many of you set some New Year's resolutions? Our guess is a lot of you did and many choose to make them health-related, whether it is losing weight or just eating better all together. Too often though, people set resolutions that are not realistic. Our health clinics in Mid Missouri are here to give you a few healthy New Year's resolutions you can really stick to. If you really want to start the year off right and in a healthy direction, schedule your annual check-up with a health clinic at the Lake of the Ozarks you can count on. Call the Central Ozarks Medical Center nearest to you, our phone number can be found on our website at www.CentralOzarks.org.

Healthy New Year's Resolutions You Can REALLY Stick To

Work exercise into your normal weekly routine.
People struggle with this but there are a few things you can do to really stick to it. For example, schedule your workouts the same way you would schedule a work meeting or dinner outing. Actually place it into your schedule on your phone or write it in your planner as it is a normal part of your week. You can also do more things at work to stay more active. For example, instead of sending a coworker an e-mail, walk over to them to say what you were going to say. Take breaks to walk outside around the building. If your office allows, bring an exercise ball in and do a few crunches while sitting at your desk.

Sleep at least 7 hours a night.
This is one of the most important healthy New Year's resolutions you can make. Lack of sleep can lead to weight gain and stress. Put down your electronics earlier this year and do what you need to do to get at least 7 hours of sleep every night. If you are having trouble falling asleep, drink some warm Sleepytime tea or a warm glass or milk.

Write down what you are thankful for every week.
Improve your inner happiness and be more positive this year by writing everything you are thankful for each week.

Use a healthy coping mechanism for stress.
Instead of overeating when you are stressed, take a walk or drink some Stress-Free tea.

Stick to Your Healthy New Year's Resolutions This Year with COMC

We would like to wish everyone Good Luck on sticking to their healthy New Year's resolutions this year. You can do it! We believe in you. Again, we believe to truly be healthy you should start the year off right by scheduling your yearly health check-up at a health clinic in Central Missouri you can trust. Check out the COMC website, www.CentralOzarks.org to learn more about our health clinics and why you should consider us for your next checkup.

New Year, Better Teeth! Show Your Kids The Dentist Isn't So Bad.

It is officially 2019 and we hope you had fun celebrating the New Year with your family! Now that it is a new year, what are your New Year's resolutions? Our health clinics at the Lake of the Ozarks would like to encourage you to make healthy New Year's resolutions with your kids too, like to overcome their fear of the dentist! Central Ozarks Medical Center is here to give you a few tips for helping your kids overcome their fear of the dentist. To try a new dentist this year, contact our Richland Dental Center at 573.765.2510.

Don't let your child's older siblings or friends tell your child that is scared of the dentist SCARY dentist stories.
Your youngest child could be having a harder time adjusting to the idea of going to the dentist if their older siblings are constantly trying to scare them with made up stories. Be mindful of this and put a stop to it as soon as you can. You don't want your youngest child to feel even more intimidated.

Distract your child while at the dentist office so they can forget about their fear.
Ask the dentist if you can go back with your child. This way you can talk to your child and distract them while the dentist may be reaching for a "scary-looking" instrument.

Show your kids the dentist isn't scary by putting on a brave face yourself.
If you have a fear of going to the dentist, then your kid's are probably going to have a fear as well. Set a good example by going to your regular check-ups and pointing out the positive advantages to going on a regular basis, such as having a better chance at cavity prevention or tooth decay.

Play "dentist" with your kids.
Pretend like you have a dentist's office in the comfort of your own home and act like you are your child's dentist. Show your kids how the dentist really isn't that bad by going through a routine check-up. Count their teeth and try holding up a mirror and showing them their teeth. You'll obviously want to avoid making drill noises. The point here is to make a dentist office visit sound fun rather than scary.

Take your kids to the dentist early on in life.
The earlier you start taking your kids to the dentist, the better. Taking your child to the dentist earlier on in life gives them more time to get used to the cleanings and regular check-ups.

Let COMC Show Your Child The Dentist Isn't Scary!

Our dentists in Richland take pride in offering the best dental care and making sure patients of all ages feel at ease when they walk into our office. If you are tired of your current dentist and are ready for someone new, call COMC. We are ready to show you and your kids the dentist isn't scary!
