Summer Beverages to Be Aware Of

It's summer 2018! What are your plans this summer? Do you plan to be outside a lot? Whether you plan to spend most of your time boating, swimming, fishing, hiking, or biking, it's important that you stay hydrated and drink plenty of water. If you find yourself feeling ill this summer, call Central Ozarks Medical Center. Consuming drinks that contain a lot of sugar can reduce the amount of liquid your body actually retains. Our health clinics at the Lake of the Ozarks are here to tell you about a few summer beverages you should be aware of.

Summer Beverages to Be Aware Of

Beer
Too much consumption of any type of alcohol is clearly bad for you, but did you know that beer can be a trigger for high uric acid? A high uric acid level can cause you to be at higher risk for high blood pressure, kidney disease, obesity, or diabetes.

Sweet Tea
Sweet tea can be such a treat in the summertime. However, certain sweet tea recipes are known to contain more than twenty percent sugar. That more than some sodas. Stay healthy this summer and consider either a low calorie sweetener or drinking unsweet tea.

Energy Drinks
It can be quite common to want to consume multiple energy drinks on a hot summer day, but drink with caution. Energy drinks typically contain lot of caffeine. Try to limit yourself to approximately no more than 400 mg of caffeine per day.

Fruit Juices
You'd think that a juice with fruit in it would be an automatic healthy drink, but this isn't always the case. Some fruit juices contain quite a bit of sugar and should be drank sparingly.

Sports Drinks
While sports drinks may contain a good amount of sodium and cal help you replenish your electrolytes, be aware of the sugar content too. Too much sugar can be bad for the enamel on your teeth.
