How To Make Healthy Eating FUN For Your Kids

Can you relate to these possible scenarios?

Your kid is begging you to stop for candy at the nearest gas station, almost every time you get into the car.

You are constantly getting asked to stop at fast-food restaurants because your kid is craving some french fries.

Your kid wants you to start packing more sweets into their lunch for school.

Does any of this sound familiar? If so, this may be the blog for you! Our Lake of the Ozarks health clinics are here to give you a few to tips on how to make healthy eating fun for your kids. According to the CDC, as of 2016, nearly 1 out of every 5 kids and young adults (ages 6-19) are obese. If you are looking for a Pediatrician at the Lake of the Ozarks to be the perfect fit for your child and to help you get their health under control, consider Central Ozarks Medical Center.

How To Make Healthy Eating FUN For Your Kids

Position your fruits and vegetable into happy face shapes.
You can do wonders for your kids by simply adding fun details to already healthy food. For example, you could incorporate fruits and veggies into happy faces. 2 blueberries could make fantastic eyes, a strawberry for a nose and a banana for a smile - this could work perfectly! You could do the same sort of thing with vegetables.

Make your veggies look like cute animals.
You'd be surprised how many healthy foods you can make look like cute animals. Pinterest can be a great resource for this sort of thing.

Let your kids help create fun foods rather than doing it all yourself.
While you may be used to preparing all your kids meals yourself, don't be afraid to let them contribute to making these sorts of easy meals. Just the act of making them themselves can really be fun all in itself.

All of us here at Central Ozarks Medical Center hope you enjoyed learning a little bit about how to make healthy eating fun for your kids. The obesity statistics in the U.S. involving our children are just plain troubling. We want to do everything we can to lead the way to healthier communities. If you haven't been able to find a Lake of the Ozarks Pediatrician that you approve of yet for your children, you should look into Central Ozarks Medical Center. Our Pediatric Providers are dedicated and ready to help your kids. To learn a little more about our Pediatric Providers at the Lake of the Ozarks, please visit HERE. 5 Ways for Keeping Work-Related Stress from Affecting Your Health

You can have the best job in the world and STILL experience some stress from it, from time to time. That is normal, but you have to to keep it from affecting your health. Our health clinics at the Lake of the Ozarks are here to give you a few ways on how to try and keep work-related stress from affecting your health. If you are feeling ill and are not sure where to turn, consider Central Ozarks Medical Center. We accept patients with and without insurance and offer a sliding fee scale based on income and family size. We work to lead the way to healthier communities.

5 Ways for Keeping Work-Related Stress from Affecting Your Health

1. Exercise your stress away.
When you get home from work after a long day, your first thought may be to stress eat and go to your nearest fast food establishment and get your favorite fried dish OR to just lounge around the house and watch your favorite TV show. We get it, those are both very tempting options, but you'd be surprised how much exercising can actually help you de-stress. When those endorphins kick in, you can feel so happy and accomplished.

2. Write it all down.
Do you ever feel like you just need to call a friend and vent about how bad your day was at work? That feeling is very understandable, but you know what else can really help you deal with your feelings in a healthy way - journaling. Write how you are feeling down in a notepad and just getting your feelings out there. This can be so freeing.

3. Avoid getting "burnt out" by actually taking a real vacation.
It can be so easy to get swept up in your job that you forget to take care of you. Don't forget to do this because taking care of you should actually come first. If you don't take care of you, how are you supposed to be able to do your job? Vacation time is put in place for a reason, to recharge, use it and come back refreshed.

4. Know when to "draw the line" between your professional life and your personal life.
Everyone is different and has their own way of dealing with their work-related tasks. When you get home, take that time for yourself, stop looking at your work e-mails and spend some time with your family. Constantly looking at work e-mails or just working, in general, can actually have a negative effect on your body and could even make you less productive at work.

5. Find your method for relaxation and do that every night.
Relaxing after work is so important, while you may have other obligations you have to take care of after work, be sure to take some time for yourself every night. Even if you could just set aside 30 minutes for some yoga or to read a book - whatever you relaxation method may be, do that!

We here at Central Ozarks Medical Center hope you enjoyed reading about these 5 ways to try and keep work-related stress from affecting your health. Our Lake of the Ozarks health clinics hope that you take the time to take care of yourself too. Don't forget, if you are feeling ill, and are not sure where to turn, consider Central Ozarks Medical Center. You don't have to have health insurance to be accepted here and we have many health clinics throughout the Lake of the Ozarks area. Visit our website at www.CentralOzarks.org for more information.

Healthy Habits for Back to School

It's about that time of year again! Kids are preparing to go back to school toward the end of this month and as parents, you probably are thinking "I need to get them back into their routine, but how?" Our health clinics at the Lake of the Ozarks are here to give you a few healthy habits for back to school. If you need to make an appointment before school starts with a Richland dental clinic for your child, consider Central Ozarks Medical Center. Our Richland Dental Center can be reached at 573-765-2510.

Healthy Habits for Back to School

Teach your kids to go to bed earlier.
In the summer, your kids likely have a lot going on and they may be going to bed at later times. Bring that to an end and have them start getting back in the habit of going to bed earlier so they are ready for school nights.

Start making healthier breakfasts BEFORE school starts.
Make a well-balanced breakfast, such as eggs, wheat toast, and fruit. You can even pre-make things so they are easier to prepare in the mornings where you may have limited time.

Encourage active hobbies your kids will enjoy once they try it.
Try to get your kids away from the TV and smartphones more and into more active hobbies, such as:

  • Walking
  • Jogging
  • Swimming
  • Basketball
...etc. There are so many to choose from, so your kids will have quite the variety so they likely won't get bored.

Start a garden with your kids and plant fall items, such as garlic.
This can help your kids to eat healthier and work hard at the same time. You can plant many things in the fall such as garlic, onions, asparagus, spinach, peas, etc.

Be sure to watch for the nutrition facts on the labels when preparing your kid's lunches.
Pay attention to things like calorie count, fats, sugars, and proteins. These are important things to keep in mind when figuring out what should be in your kids' lunches.

Encourage healthy habits for your kids to get into before they go back to school. Our Lake of the Ozarks health clinics can help you. Again, if you are looking to book an appointment with a dentist in the Lake of the Ozarks area for your child before school starts, you should call our Richland Dental Clinic. We can be reached at 573-765-2510. Make your appointment today for your child at Central Ozarks Medical Center.
