How To Make Healthy Eating FUN For Your Kids

Can you relate to these possible scenarios?

Your kid is begging you to stop for candy at the nearest gas station, almost every time you get into the car.

You are constantly getting asked to stop at fast-food restaurants because your kid is craving some french fries.

Your kid wants you to start packing more sweets into their lunch for school.

Does any of this sound familiar? If so, this may be the blog for you! Our Lake of the Ozarks health clinics are here to give you a few to tips on how to make healthy eating fun for your kids. According to the CDC, as of 2016, nearly 1 out of every 5 kids and young adults (ages 6-19) are obese. If you are looking for a Pediatrician at the Lake of the Ozarks to be the perfect fit for your child and to help you get their health under control, consider Central Ozarks Medical Center.

How To Make Healthy Eating FUN For Your Kids

Position your fruits and vegetable into happy face shapes.
You can do wonders for your kids by simply adding fun details to already healthy food. For example, you could incorporate fruits and veggies into happy faces. 2 blueberries could make fantastic eyes, a strawberry for a nose and a banana for a smile - this could work perfectly! You could do the same sort of thing with vegetables.

Make your veggies look like cute animals.
You'd be surprised how many healthy foods you can make look like cute animals. Pinterest can be a great resource for this sort of thing.

Let your kids help create fun foods rather than doing it all yourself.
While you may be used to preparing all your kids meals yourself, don't be afraid to let them contribute to making these sorts of easy meals. Just the act of making them themselves can really be fun all in itself.

All of us here at Central Ozarks Medical Center hope you enjoyed learning a little bit about how to make healthy eating fun for your kids. The obesity statistics in the U.S. involving our children are just plain troubling. We want to do everything we can to lead the way to healthier communities. If you haven't been able to find a Lake of the Ozarks Pediatrician that you approve of yet for your children, you should look into Central Ozarks Medical Center. 5 Tips for Determining If You Should Take Your Child to the Doctor When Coughing

We want the best for our little ones and nothing feels worse than seeing them suffer from an illness and feeling like you can't do anything about it. Our health clinics at the Lake of the Ozarks understand. We know how hard it can be to know whether or not to know if you should be bringing your kid to the doctor when they have a cough. On one hand, you may be thinking it is just a cough, it will go away soon, on the other hand, you may be thinking what if this cough turns into something worse? If you are ever in doubt, take your kid to the doctor at the Lake of the Ozarks, just in case, better safe than sorry. Central Ozarks Medical Center is here to give you 5 tips for determining if you should take your child to the doctor when they are coughing. If you still need to establish a Lake of the Ozarks Pediatrician for your little one, consider Central Ozarks Medical Center. Check out our website at www.CentralOzarks.org to learn more.

5 Tips for Determining If You Should Take Your Child to the Doctor When Coughing

1. The cough is very persistent.
If your child is coughing quite a bit, as in more than every 5 minutes, you should contact their doctor. This frequent cough could be caused by mucus and could be causing them breathing problems.

2. There is a green or yellow mucus.
If your child has developed a green or yellow mucus, there is a possibility they may have a respiratory or sinus infection. In this case, you should absolutely contact your Pediatrician.

3. The cough sounds like a bark.
A bark like cough could be a sign of an illness called croup. Croup involves the larynx and trachea in a child being inflamed. This illness is much more popular in children under the age of 8. Again, if your child is experiencing this, you should contact your Pediatrician.

4. There is a whistling sound when your child breathes out.
If your child is experiencing a high-pitched whistling sound when they breath out they could be wheezing. If this is the case, you should contact your Pediatrician immediately.

5. Your child has a fever.
If your child has fever of 102 degrees or over in addition to a cough, there is a possibility they could have pneumonia and you should absolutely contact your Pediatrician.

Again, whenever in doubt, take your child to your local Pediatrician at the Lake of the Ozarks. It is better to be safe than sorry. Central Ozarks Medical Center knows you want the best for your child, including healthcare. Get the best healthcare at the Lake of the Ozarks for your child at COMC. Things to Look for When Choosing a Pediatrician

Our little ones mean the world to us and you want to give them the best of everything, including healthcare. As a parent, you don't want to see your child in pain and it can be the hardest thing in the world to see your child not feeling well and feeling like you can't do anything about it. It is extremely important that when you are choosing a Pediatrician at the Lake of the Ozarks for your child that you feel like you can trust them and that your child feels comfortable around them. Our health clinics at the Lake of the Ozarks are here to give you a few things to look for when choosing a Pediatrician. If you are searching for a new Pediatrician for your little one, consider Central Ozarks Medical Center.

Things to Look for When Choosing a Pediatrician

Good Reviews from Friends and Family
When you are looking for a Pediatrician for your little one, ask around. Check with family and friends and get their opinions on the Pediatricians you are considering. You can also check the Pediatrician's online reviews, Facebook, Google, etc. You may find a great deal of insight that way as well.

Experience in Pediatrics
Check the Pediatricians credentials. See how long they have been in this field. You may feel less comfortable with a Pediatrician that just started versus someone who has many years of experience.

A Caring and Gentle Demeanor
This is your child, you want to be sure whoever is caring for them has a kind demeanor and treats your little one with the care they deserve. You can call and make an appointment and just see how the Pediatrician you are considering acts around your child. Think of it sort of a like a job interview, only you are the hiring manager and the Pediatrician is the job candidate.

You and Your Little One Get Along Well with This Pediatrician
Above all else, you want to make sure you and your child like this person. Are they kind? Do they ask you how your week has been? Do they show a genuine interest in their patients? All of this matters. You should strive to find a Pediatrician that is truly passionate about what they do.

As a parent, nothing matters more than the health and well-being of your children. Part of ensuring that your children are given the resources they need to thrive involves regularly visiting a Missouri pediatric care provider. By bringing your child to routine wellness visits and promptly seeking care when your child displays symptoms of being sick, you can offer them the resources they need to lead healthy lives.

Pediatric Care at the Lake of the Ozarks

Beginning with their very first heartbeat, you want to be confident that your children receive the best of everything, including the best medical care. At Central Ozarks Medical Center, our pediatric services revolve around two primary components: child-focused healthcare and parent education.

Child-Focused Healthcare

Children are at a very vulnerable stage in their lives. They rely almost totally on the care provided to them by their parents or guardians. When their children are in need of medical care, parents are also in a vulnerable place - they rely heavily on their trusted healthcare providers to help them care for their children.

At Central Ozarks Medical Center, we recognize the immense trust parents place in us when they bring their child to see our pediatric care provider in central Missouri. Continually earning that trust is our top priority. We are proud to offer a variety of child-focused health services to serve our pediatric patients:
  • Well-child exams
  • Diagnostic tests
  • Follow-up of chronic problems
  • Sports screenings
  • Evaluation and management of growth
  • General health management

Parent Education

As a pediatric care provider, the amount of care we can provide to our child patients. While we can (and do) provide them with the best care we can while they are with us, these patients obviously spend a significant amount of time not under our direct care and supervision. We make up for this by striving to educate the parents and guardians of our pediatric patients. Once they know what to look for and what to expect, parents and guardians are able to better care for their children by quickly responding anytime anything seems unusual.

Trust COMC For Your Pediatric Care Needs

Like you, we consider caring for your children's health and well-being to be our top priority. If you are looking for a pediatric doctor in Mid-Missouri, we hope you'll consider Dr. Kristen Theobald, DO at Central Ozarks Medical Center.
