What is a Dexa Scan?
This exam measures bone density and can detect osteoporosis before a fracture occurs. This can predict your chances of future fractures, determine your current rate of bone loss and can assist your provider in diagnosing osteoporosis and advising you in appropriate preventions and treatment for the disease.
The exam consists of a questionnaire and about 10 minutes laying down while your bones are scanned. Wear comfortable clothes without large metal buckles, buttons or jewelry.
Who should receive a scan?

• Anyone on oral steroids longer than 3 months
• Men age 70 and over
• Anyone over age 50 with a history of bone fractures
